Cristiano Ronaldo could have been forced to adopt a different number on a temporary basis – just as he donned No 9 at Real while Raul wore No 7.
However, the 33-year-old’s shirt will bear the No 7 after Cuadrado proved willing to give it up and switch to No 16.
