UFC 229: McGregor vs. Khabib press conference coming ‘early September’

Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov has been called the biggest event in UFC history. So why, we have to ask, is the silence surrounding the match so deafening seven weeks out from the October 6th fight date? Maybe the UFC knows things will get so crazy once the ball is rolling, it’ll just be wall to wall Conor-Khabib talk for a month. Maybe they’re trying to avoid McGregor Fatigue Syndrome, the same way they announced McGregor vs. Mayweather a scant month and a half before the match happened.

Regardless, it’s almost time for the circus to come to town. Which town is the current question. According to UFC Tonight, a press and fan event will take place in early September that will feature both Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov in person. No specific date or location has been announced, with Las Vegas, New York and Dallas all being speculated.

Las Vegas, because that’s where UFC 229 featuring Conor vs. Khabib is being held. New York, because it’s closer to Ireland and may dovetail with another potential huge UFC announcement (the very unconfirmed possibility that Jon Jones might return at Madison Square Garden for UFC 230). Dallas, because it’s the location for UFC 228 on September 8th and will already be crawling with MMA fans.

Wherever and whenever this press conference is held, we imagine it’s going to open the floodgates for a McGregor saturated month of September. So enjoy the quiet before the storm, because Conor, Khabib, and their army of hardcore fans are coming.
