Breaking: Cris Cyborg vs Amanda Nunes title fight set for UFC 232 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas

t’s about to go down.

A much-talked about title fight between current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Featherweight champion Cris Cyborg, and current UFC women’s Bantamweight title holder, Amanda Nunes, is finally going to happen.

That’s according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, who took to Twitter to break the news:

Nunes initially called for a showdown against Cyborg earlier this year, but for one reason or another the two ladies couldn’t seem to get on the same page regarding a potential date. As a result, Nunes went on to demolish Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in May (see it), two months after Cris destroyed Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222.

Meanwhile, Cyborg kept waiting in the wings hoping for Nunes to sign on the dotted line, threatening to part ways with UFC once her contract ran out if the promotion couldn’t get Amanda or anyone else for that matter, to face her.

Now, the most feared striker in all of women’s MMA has gotten her wish, as she has the chance to take out another dominant champion in her own right. Unfortunately for Cris, she won’t be able to officially cal herself “champ champ” with a victory, as the fight will be for her 145-pound title.

Nunes, though, has the chance to do the unthinkable by stopping Cyborg’s terrorizing run as the most vicious and feared fighter in women’s MMA. In doing so, “Lioness” can pretty much write her own ticket with the promotion moving forward, as she will be only the promotions third fighter (Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier) to hold two separate division titles simultaneously.
