Breaking: Dustin Poirier forced out of Nate Diaz fight at UFC 230 with an injury

Just when we thought UFC 230 was salvaged with the addition of Daniel Cormier defending his Heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis, Dustin Poirier has been forced out of his co-main event fight against Nate Diaz with an undisclosed injury.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has the word:

A soul-crushing blow.

Diaz and Poirier were both lobbying for the promotion to let them headline the pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is set to go down on Nov. 3, 2018 inside Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., but UFC president Dana White slammed the door on that possibility.

UFC 230 has been giving the promotion headaches to say the least, as the company struggled to find a suitable headliner, going as far as booking an inexplicable women’s Flyweight title fightbetween Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks. But after “DC” and “Black Beast” agreed to tango on three week’s notice, that fight was ultimately scratched.

Which was music to Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s ears.

Despite the hiccup, the rest of the event features several interesting matchups, including Luke Rockhold facing off against Chris Weidman, Israel Adesanya vs. Derek Brunson and Ronaldo Souza battling David Branch.

While there is no word yet if Diaz will remain on the card, UFC has a little over three weeks to try and find a suitable replacement captivating enough to convince the Stockton slugger to play ball. Care to offer up any suggestions?
